Patchwork Sashiko Method Workshop

Learn how to transform your scraps into a beautiful new textile! Diana’s Patchwork Sashiko Method is a unique mash-up of different slow stitching and patchwork techniques. You’ll start with a stack of scraps and create a pliable piece of unique patchwork fabric with which to do whatever you want! Once you learn the method, you can then use your own fabric scraps in any size and shape you like. It’s great for visible mending, using in your favorite bag pattern, or as a unique feature in a quilt. The textile will not be finished in this class, but attendees will learn all steps to finish on their own. *Use of a sewing machine is necessary for part of the workshop.
REQUIRED SUPPLIES:
• Patchwork Sashiko Kit (included in class fee and provided by Diana on class day)
• *(3) silicone needle pullers to fit on your thumb, pointer finger and middle finger. These are not rubber thimbles.
• Scissors or snips
• Lots of straight pins with a ball end
• *Fabric marking pen or pencil: Bring one for light fabrics and one for dark fabrics. I personally use the Clover Chaco Liner in White for dark fabrics and a Frixion pen for lighter fabrics interchangeably in the same textile.
• Clear quilter’s ruler approximately 9-12” in length and no more than 2-3” wide.
• Sewing machine; top and bobbin thread, needle, in good working condition. (If you are coming with a friend you are welcome to share machines!)
OPTIONAL SUPPLIES: • *Clover Embroidery Needle Threader: If you think you may have difficulty threading the needle, this item will help you. It is different from a regular needle threader due to the orientation of the threading head.
*These items are available in Diana’s Etsy shop and will also be available to purchase during class. If you order from the Etsy shop, include a “note to seller” that you are attending the class. I’ll refund your shipping and bring your order to class for pick-up. Banjoflannel Etsy Shop

Instructor: | Diana Li Fitzgerald |
Instructor Bio: | Diana Li Fitzgerald has been sewing for 19+ years starting out by designing and creating purses to sell in her Etsy shop, which opened in 2006. She saw a purse that she liked, but thought could use some design changes. So, she sketched it out, created a pattern, and sat down at a sewing machine for the first time. 16 years later she is taking her designs one step further to focus on the textiles themselves. Her Patchwork Sashiko Method is one that was developed over time through experimentation. She currently teaches her patterns and methods in-person at guilds and sewing shops as well as online. She continues to write patterns and stay active in the sewing community. |
